EVENTS

AFEQ – CNF INQUA organizes conferences, field trips, and study days to promote Quaternary studies and to bring together researchers from all disciplines related to this period: archaeology, climatology, geology, geography, paleoenvironmental studies, palynology, etc.

AFEQ – CNF INQUA holds the Quaternary (Q) Conference (Colloque Q) every two years in collaboration with a French university. This event brings together the scientific community working on the Quaternary period through sessions and round tables that highlight the diversity of themes, research topics, and field sites explored by Quaternary scientists. It also offers an opportunity to present current research and discuss methodological developments.

AFEQ – CNF INQUA also organizes a field excursion every year or every two years. These excursions aim to review ongoing research related to the Quaternary period in a given region and/or on a specific theme. Excursions may be proposed to the AFEQ board or initiated by the board through relevant experts. The detailed program and logistics are managed by the coordinator, who works in close collaboration with the board. The coordinator chooses their collaborators and is responsible for preparing and publishing the excursion field guide. These excursions typically last three days, are at the participants’ own expense, and do not require membership in the association. Whenever possible, AFEQ encourages that these excursions lead to the publication of a special issue of the Quaternaire journal, to disseminate new findings and syntheses on the topic or region covered. It is also recommended to offer a student rate to support the participation of younger researchers. Financial support can be requested from the AFEQ board (see the Young Researcher Grants page).

AFEQ – CNF INQUA, in partnership with the Geological Society of France (Société Géologique de France), also organizes a study day that brings together Quaternary researchers for oral presentations, posters, and keynote lectures. This event especially aims to showcase the work of young researchers and students working in the field of Quaternary science.
