RESEARCH UPDATE DAYS IN PREHISTORY AND QUATERNARY STUDIES OF EASTERN FRANCE, 30–31 MARCH 2026, BESANÇON
The 1st edition of the Research Update Days in Prehistory and Quaternary Studies of Eastern France will take place on March 30–31, 2026, at the MSHE Claude Nicolas Ledoux in Besançon, France.
The aim of these meetings is to provide an overview of recent research in prehistory and Quaternary geology in the northeastern quarter of France. The program will be structured around several thematic sessions highlighting methodological advances, new field data, and recent results from ongoing research in these fields. Particular emphasis will be placed on Collective Research Programs (Programmes Collectifs de Recherche, PCR) focusing on the Paleolithic, which have been initiated in recent years in Burgundy, Alsace, Lorraine, and the Île-de-France region. In this context, the first day will include a round-table discussion dedicated to current developments in Paleolithic PCRs in northeastern France (afternoon of March 30), encouraging exchanges between research teams and providing a broader perspective on regional research dynamics.
Additional sessions will focus in particular on:
- New research in prehistory and Quaternary geology of the Paris Basin;
- Studies conducted on both sides of the Vosges Massif;
- Recent work on the Quaternary and prehistory of the Bresse Graben and its surrounding mountainous margins.
The event is open to all, subject to availability.
These Research Update Days are organized by the Chrono–environnement laboratory, with the support of Université Marie et Louis Pasteur and Inrap.
