INTERNSHIP OFFER FOR A MASTER’S DEGREE IN PALEOGEOGRAPHY AND GEOARCHAEOLOGY

Internship Topic: “Paleogeographical Approach to Climate Change Adaptation at the Land–Sea Interface over the Last Millennia: A Case Study in the Loire Estuary”

This internship is part of the GEOCLIM project (Geoarchaeology and Climate Change in the Loire Estuary: Interactions Between Paleoenvironmental Evolution and Ancient Human Occupation), funded by the Pays de la Loire Region under the PULSAR program. The project aims to develop new knowledge in paleogeography and geoarchaeology of the Loire estuary.

Missions:

  • Conduct a literature review on the paleoenvironmental evolution of the Loire and recontextualize previous research conducted by the LPG in this area.
  • Summarize archaeological and heritage research carried out around the study site.
  • Participate in fieldwork campaigns, including prospecting potential sites and performing sediment coring.
  • Conduct sedimentological analyses (facies, grain size, etc.) and geochemical analyses (organic matter, isotopic dating, etc.).
  • Develop paleogeographical reconstruction hypotheses based on cross-analysis between paleoenvironmental and archaeological data.
  • Design a science outreach tool to promote and communicate the scientific results.

Additional Information:
The internship, with a maximum duration of six months, must take place between February 1 and July 31, 2026. It will be conducted at the Laboratory of Planetology and Geosciences (UMR CNRS 6112 LPG) at the University of Angers, in collaboration with the Littoral, Environment, Remote Sensing and Geomatics Laboratory (UMR CNRS 6554 LETG) and the Archaeology and Architecture Research Laboratory (UMR CNRS 6566 LARA-CReAAH) at Nantes University.

The intern will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers who have been studying the environmental and paleoenvironmental dynamics of the Loire estuary for the past fifteen years.

The internship allowance is approximately €600 per month.

Contacts:
To apply, please send a CV, a cover letter, and any letters of recommendation before November 30, 2025, to Pierre Pouzet and Grégoire Maillet.

Note: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the position may be filled before the official closing date.
